Linking files to open in a new window

Linking files to open in a new window

Postby mayomoreo » Tue Apr 03, 2012 12:33 pm

Hi all.

I would like to link hotspots to videos (or photos, or discharge of local documents, etc.) so that they open independently in a new window. I tried to make it through 'URLs' but through this way does not work. Can anybody help me?

Thanks a lot!

Hi.

This should be very straight forward to do:

1. Create a hotspot and have it selected for adding the function to it (click it directly, or select it in the hotspot drawer (bottom of the program's toolbox))
2. Click URLs in the top tab (next to "Plugins" and "Tooltips")
3. Name the function ("download_my_zip_file" .... or what suits your needs)
4. Type in the url of the file to be downloaded (or movie opened or document to be seen... ) The url must include "http://" and depending on servers, you also might have to include "www" ... like this: "http://www.filetobedownloaded.com)
5. Default setting for opening content is "_blank"... this is the setting to open a new window, rather than to open in the current window (_self). Keep the default setting.
6. Click the "Auto-Attach Function" button.

Done.

I have just done this exact method, and it works as it should.
If you still have problems with it, you should first of all make sure that the hotspot you want to apply this to, is selected... if you have had autorotation on and stopped it, or closed the info screen or clicked on some other hotspot prior to applying the URL function, you would be applying the function to the last clicked hotspot. That is the most common error when functions to be added don't seem to be working.
If you still have problems, please inform which browser and browser version, flash version and air version you are using, and less importantly, which OS you are using on what hardware.

Best of luck.

Hi Trausti.

First of all, thanks for your answer.

The file I need to open is housed in a local folder of the 'flashificated' file... then what is the path I should link? Do I need to add the 'http://'?

Thanks again

I have another question:

When I click the hotspot the panorama is centered on the position of the hotspot, why is this happening and how I do it not happen?

Thanks Trausti

If you want to link to a file locally on your drive, you would do it this way:

C:\Desktop\Zipped files\Horrorstories.zip (of course with your file' real path)

That will however never work if you put the project on the internet or onto another computer/laptop, because the location is only found on your computer.

The centering to the hotspot happens in the work-window in Flashificator I assume. This is a normal behaviour during development. This will not happen in the project once you publish it. .... unless you would make functions doing exactly that.

I saw someone linking video to hotspots, those videos are placed in the folder files/media/swf and pressing the corresponding hotspot, they open in a new window. The 'flashificated' file is hosted on the client server after and everything works fine ...

Any idea? I hope I've explained it better now.

Thanks
