Panoramas on the iPhone and potentially iPad!

Panoramas on the iPhone and potentially iPad!

Hi,

I came across this post from Martin on FlashPanoramas on Google and I just had to give it a go.

Here's a quick version I did using some panoramas I took while in Vietnam.

iphone url: http://tinyurl.com/yglckvc (you must access it via the iphone for it work properly)
web url: http://tinyurl.com/yzxoq66

Here's Martins post.

-------------------------------
Back to the discussion about viewing panos on iPhones and price.
Just thought I'd share this for the greater good.

http://janvrsinsky.com/temp/ipp/index.html

This guy has developed a viewer that he is allowing FREE use of under
a ccc licence. (ie. We can use it commercially so long as we keep
references)

Just grab the code from his example pages.

Looks like the code could use some tweaking for pinch zooming but all
in all it could suit out demand quite well if used and presented in
the right online environment and interface.

Guess the other guys should keep their price at 20 euro and remove the
'spam' screen after all.

Let's see if we can't all together get this code optimized... Happy
sharing guys.

Hi,

I have a new version of the site running now, nice skin etc. On the iphone you can find the site at http://tinyurl.com/yjge83o or http://www.tonyredhead.com/360squared

If you just want to have a look at the screengrabs check out http://tonyredhead.posterous.com/iphone-panorama-site-updated

I'm working on resolving the issues seen when rotating the iphone and have a prototype that shows a correct pano in both portrait and rotated mode at http://www.tonyredhead.com/360squared/vietnam2.html

regards,

Tony

How long does it take you to put together a tour for the iPhone?

Hi VitoDivVita,

At the moment it's taking a while only because i'm designing and building as I go. Once I have the template built basically the tree structure will be as follows;

Index.html [list of categories ie Vietnam/Orion/Panasonic/YHA]
> vietnam.html [list of locations ie Six Senses Hideaway/Saigon/Hue]
> sixsenses.html [deck/diving/bedroom/bathroom]
> sixsensespano.html [pano page]

Presuming I'm already got a regular website version of the pano running and I wanted to add a new Category/Location and panos, the procedure would be as follows;

1. Batch reduce cube's in Photoshop [5 minutes]
2. Rename for iphone [2 minutes]
3. Create a new Categories graphic and update code on index.html [5 minutes]
4. Create new Locations graphics and update code on new 'categories'.html [5 minutes]
5. Create new Pano graphics and update code on new 'location'.html [5 minutes]
7. Create new 'location.pano'.html page [1 minutes]
8. Upload to server [1 minutes]
9. Test [5 minutes]

So let's say about 30 minutes give or take. It's really only a matter of creating the graphics and adding a few links. Remember there's no xml here this is just basic html code work in Dreamweaver.

I'm in the process of adding some of the Orion panos at the moment.

I still need to finalise the code for the orientation.

regards,

Tony

Very interesting!

It'd be great if somebody made a dummy-proof video for that..

Happy to say I've resolved the issue of the pano not seaming properly when you rotated the iphone. I've uploaded the latest version and added some more panos.

You can get to the site via the iphone at www.redsquare.com/360
