SA projector - very "choppy" with animated functions

Postby marekdziekonski » Tue Apr 05, 2011 8:37 am

Has anyone encountered a problem with SA Projector been really "choppy" (loosing the frame rate down to something that looks like 3f/s) when playing animated functions (such as darkening the panorama when info is clicked, or having elements move across the screen)? Same problem when lens flare is present.

Whenever I trigger an animation or browse a panorama with a lens flare my processor usage spikes to 90% and everything slows down and becomes really jagged. I have an Intel i7 970 3.2GHz (Six-Core Gulftown) processor and 12GB of RAM.

Could that be related to the new AIR version? I don't think I had this problem prior to the upgrade... Help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

EDIT: forgot to mention that I'm on FFC v.2.0694

I have noticed choppy movement with static images. I wonder of this is related.

Having just made a projector with 2.0694 I checked. I'm not using lens flare or extended time functions (I am using 0-100% opacity increase on rollover though) and although there is some degradation of performance it's no more than I would expect when reading from disc. CPU never goes beyond 80% and fps is 16-17 on rotation. I'm not exactly replicating your project though...

24 inch iMac 2.33GHZ Core Duo, 3GB RAM - so no rocket ship. A problem that I am getting though is the projector opening full screen at about 105%, clicking on the FS button reduces it and clicking again increases it to fit correctly - so why it won't do that in the first place escapes me :? I don't think that I have noticed this before but then I haven't made that many projectors before now. Strange stuff.

Hey Bruce, for macs it does operate at 105% never could figure out why but I think I remember Trausti talking about it many many months ago (maybe even years). Works fine on a PC but that does us Mac users no good.

Bruce, are you using the opacity increase globaly, for a panorama or for a hotspot? The problem is most evident with the lensflare. Could you guys "project" a panorama to see how it behaves? The flashificated project doesn't have any issues/slow downs with said items. :/

I had Proggy to test with large and small projects, and there was nothing choppy showing up. Nor is there anything in the code that could cause such things (I insisted that he would eye-ball the code line for line)... so it sounds even more strange... and more interesting to get our hands on a SAP project that behaves in this manner to test on our end. If anything, the SAP projects run smoother and better on our end.

Trausti, thank you so much for looking into it. Can I sent the projected file to you via sendspace? I could attach the flashificator project file with it also.

My experience with the projector in the past has been exactly like you describe - smoother if anything. I think I started having problems after upgrading the AIR. I will try to install the previous version to see if that helps and let you know.

Thank you again!

You are more than welcome to use any functional service.... you can also attach it to a PM if the file doesn't exceed 50mb.

AIR should not affect the SA Projector's behaviour since it runs on pure Flash. AIR is only involved when using Flashificator during development, and Flashificated projects and SAP's are Flash only.

Will be looking forward to check the project.

Thanks for assisting.
